The SHTF event I’ve lived through the most isn’t dramatic, it’s power outages. Growing up in Connecticut, ice storms sometimes knocked power out for up to 13 days. Nobody panicked and everyone was prepared. We all actually had fun.
Let’s talk about how to get two week of food and water squared away – fast.
On a recent work trip, I bought a condo in another state. With only three days in town, I didn’t have enough time to set up a full prep plan – but I still wanted two weeks of food and water before heading home. The following is exactly what I did.
Shopping List
- 8 large boxes of Minute Rice
- 36 cans of Progresso Chicken and Rice soup
- 6 boxes of Maple & Brown Sugar Instant Oatmeal
- 10 cases of bottled water (40-count each)
Meals take almost no effort: rice cooks in 5 minutes, soup is heat-and-eat (better with rice added), and oatmeal just needs boiling water.
That’s my two-week starter kit. Simple, fast, and power-outage ready. Tweak it to fit your taste and you’ll have peace of mind when the lights go out. Adjust to your personal liking.
